One of the primary design focuses for Windows Vista is improved security and network management, and then there’s performance, improved self diagnosis and of course Microsofts’ continued support of a new product. And finally the toys the Aero Glass user interface and integrated search and gadget dock area.
So the question is would you like to upgrade? Well it may be wise to consider prior to doing so.
For instance compatibility problems have been the first the hit the headlines, with major applications reporting issues with running the new Vista platform, next it’s a totally unique look, therefore users have to think how to use it and unless times on your side…. and then there are the somewhat demanding hardware requirements in order to run the operating system let alone the battery drain on your laptop, increased graphics come at a price.
So is it worth the money? Only you can decide, Microsoft has tried to soften the blow by releasing different versions of Vista with difference price points, but overall it’s confusing.
Gamers be warned to enjoy the enhanced performance of DirectX 10 you will require a graphics card that supports it, yet again more investment.
So just how ground breaking is Vista technology? The sidebar and Aero Glass - unfortunately that’s not even that innovative, Google has a nice sidebar with a built-in RSS reader available for free. Yahoo widgets give you all manner of data and tools and Sun’s Project Looking Glass provides a free minimal 3 D desktop for XP.
Fortunately XP will be around for a while yet so there’s not need to rush your decision.
